Who’s Web: La directory dei talenti Web 2.0

Written by on Saturday, October 20th, 2007 in Ajax News.

Coming soon to Flickr: Photo editing

Written by on Saturday, October 20th, 2007 in Ajax News.

TechCrunch reports Flickr is to gain photo editing. It will use IFrame-based integration with Flash editing tool Picnik.

Flickr has chosen Seattle-based Picnik (profile) to handle the long requested photo editing feature for Flickr users.

Currently, you can rotate photos on Flickr, but the editing stops there. When the new tools launch, users will be able to edit photos more extensively using the Picnik Flash based tools (see our review here).

With users relying on online storage more and more, it’s a no-brainer for those tools to offer editing capability. We can expect to see the trend continue with image sites as well as audio and video. And while image editing is possible with pure HTML/Javascript, Flash is generally the platform of choice right now.

jQuery e Firebug insieme grazie a un nuovo plugin

Written by on Saturday, October 20th, 2007 in Ajax News.

$(root).find('li.source> input:checkbox').log("Elementi da deselezionare").removeAttr("checked");

Come vedete basta aggiungere un nodo .log alle nostre chiamate jQuery per inviare tutti i dettagli a Firebug ! Ovviamente il sistema funziona solamente su Firefox non essendo disponibile Firebug per Internet Explorer.

CSI:NY Comes To Second Life Wednesday

Written by on Saturday, October 20th, 2007 in Ajax News.

Second Life is bracing itself for an influx of new members this coming week with the long awaited episode of CSI:NY does Second Life to be shown in the United States on Wednesday.

The episode will see Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) entering Second Life to pursue a killer who has killed a Second Life user in a case of virtual stalking gone too far.

CSI:NY fans will be encouraged to join Second Life and investigate the case by following a link on the CBS website. CSI:NY will have three options for CSI-related inworld activities. The first option will allow viewers to walk around virtual New York buildings and visit a CSI lab and play forensic games.

The second option consists of a game called “Murder by Zuiker,” a unique murder plot which can be solved by users finding clues. The 100 people who come closest to solving the murder will win virtual gifts.

The big tie-in gives new users the ability to become CSI investigators, complete with field kit and tools, and are given a chance to interview suspects and to solve the murder featured in the actual CSI:NY episode. The episode itself will apparently end in a cliff-hanger with the solution not revealed until February.

The CSI:NY episode also sees the launch of the Electric Sheep Company’s OnRez Second Life client, the first major independent Second Life client launched since Linden Lab moved to provide open access to their virtual world in January.

Some reports suggest that Second Life could see one million new user signups following the CSI:NY episode going to air, however it will be more interesting to see how many of the new users will stick around.

YieldBuild Will Try To Pay You More Than AdSense

Written by on Saturday, October 20th, 2007 in Ajax News.

yieldbuild_logo.gifSimply slapping AdSense on your site is one of the easiest, but not necessarily best, ways to monetize your website. There are a lot of factors that go into getting the most out of your ad units. They range from placement, color, ad network, or even time of day. Each of these factors can affect ad performance

YieldBuild, a new service from the company that launched HubPages, will take a stab at optimizing those ad units for you. It’s similar to the Rubicon Project, a highly rated ad optimization platform in beta that finds the best mix of ad network and demographic data. However, YeildBuild has a focus on layout and design.

It uses computer algorithms to automatically optimize your site’s ad spots with the most profitable combination of ad layout, style, and network. The system continually tests alternative configurations of layouts, networks, and color, looking for the highest performing ones. You can see a timeline of the system substituting ads below. It takes about 100,000 impressions to train the system. As users become unresponsive to the ads, the system is supposed to switch in a more profitable combination of layout and networks.

They’ve been privately beta testing the system with some fairly well known startups and saw improvements of 50% to over 100% in effective CPM rates on user profile pages. They’re currently looking for more beta testers to try the system out on.
